1 in 12 U.S. vehicle owning households now owns an RV. There are more than 12,000 RV related businesses in the U.S. with combined annual revenues of more than $37.5 billion. There are 2 main types of sources of electricity within the RV: 12 Volt DC and 120 Volt AC. RV Parks and Campgrounds only supply 120 Volt AC, 12-volt DC is provided by the RV’s batteries to power things as the water pump, the blower in the furnaces, lights and DC appliances, etc. 120 Volt AC powers the electrical outlets for the TV, the AC unit(s), coffee maker, etc.
RV owner major complaints include: 1.) Lack of use is one of the biggest problems with generators. RV owners constantly complain about generators that don’t start, or if they did, they surge – a result of letting the generator sit for periods of time without use, 2.) 120 V “shore” power is not always available and when it is, it is expensive. 3.) Without shore power the batteries discharge at a rate that leaves the occupants without electricity. 4.) Solar panels are large, are in a fixed position that does not take full advantage of the available sunlight and do not produce enough current to adequately maintain a charge to the batteries. 5.) Lack of adequate charge to the batteries results in the occupant has to reduce the draw from the batteries by turning off AC and DC devices that they would normally be using.
The KCM Integrated RV system eliminates the capital cost of a generator. It eliminates the noise, maintenance and operating cost of a generator, and eliminates the need for shore power. It provides the energy to operate their electrical devices upon demand, but is more efficient in time in charging the batteries than solar panels, generators and shore power.
